NASHUA - Some buildings get a second lease on life, and that's certainly true of the one at 12 Murphy Drive. Originally, the building was going up to give Teradyne Connection Systems more manufacturing room to meet increasing demands for its connectors and backplanes.

But before it could be finished, the bottom dropped out of the telecommunications industry and high-tech in general, making it necessary for Teradyne to halt construction.

In stepped Amos White III and Peter Paradise, two real estate developers who chose to buy the building and do it over with office leasing in mind. As a result, the building has become home to or is about to become the home for several businesses.

"It's very central and it has good exposure to the highway," White said. "The location has a lot of potential and it's just a great spot."

One well-known name, Transparent Language, which makes language-learning software for individuals, moved there last August and now leases about 11,000 square feet of office space. The company started in 1991 in Hollis, made its way to
Nashua and then Merrimack as it needed more room, and has found the 12 Murphy Drive space to be the right place these days.

Another company, Vascular Technologies of Lowell, Mass., is scheduled to move into the building in May. The company is a medical-device firm, and will be leasing close to 7,000 square feet for office and production space, and another 3,000 square feet of storage space. The company makes a line of surgical dopplers and disposable probes that are used in neurosurgery, cardiac and vascular surgery and urology.

Some of White's companies are also leasing space, including Bentley Management Group, a property-management company run by White and Mark White. Amos White has also created Everett Executive Suites, which offers office space for lease, with all office amenities including a receptionist, for one-man offices or start-up companies.

White had the offices designed to be professional-looking, and the space includes conference rooms.

"It gives people a nicer business environment," White said of the space, which may end up acting like a mini-business incubator, he added.

There is also another approximately 14,500 square feet that has a number of tenants, including Hurt & Forbes Insurance Agency, which is run by Chuck Kruger; Karin Deschense of Banknorth, who specializes in residential mortgage lending; and Michael O'Rourke of Liaison Consulting & Leasing, which specializes in business consulting.

Homes by Paradise also leases 900 square feet of storage and Morin's Landscaping leases about 2,600 square feet of storage.

This summer, there will also be a health club, which will use about 4,000 square feet.
